She surely saved the best for last! Vanessa Williams releases her new single “Legs (Keep Dancing)” and just by discovering that she is back, we are all left with our mouth open!
She hasn’t released music for the last 15 years. Vanessa Williams, when I started radio, was already huge worldwide and in 1992 she released her No.1 hit single “Saved the best for last“. I remember playing it over and over again for about a year, it was a dream soul ballad, sung so beautifully, melodies, orchestra it had everything. Then it was “Betcha Never”, “Love Is” etc. that I had on my radio playlist in the 90s. Well, apart from Miss America in the ’80s we had been following her career and of course movies like “Soul Food”, “Dance with me” etc.
And some days ago as I watch my timeline, I see that she just released a new song. Vanessa Williams in 2024 is 61 years old and first thing that popped in my mind is ‘what is she doing after all those years, is it going to be a low pop boring tune after so much time’? Then I pressed play on her new video.
After watching “LEGS” for the first time and listening the new Vanessa Williams tune, my mouth was still open, I was full of joy listening to a disco groovy vibe, so catchy, my feelings were high and I kept thinking like ‘what the fuck is this?’ And I instantly pressed replay… Summer 2024 bring it on! This is my first song on this summer’s playlist!
Well, she definitely put so much love on this tune and listening to it over and over again the last days, I have to admit that THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE POP MUSIC! Yeap, this is how you do it. Even on the video she almost does it effortless, with her beautiful smile, her great dancing skills. She wore a crown (without even realising it) setting all the standards too high for all the young singers out there who try to make it by releasing boring pop tunes about how bad their life is and how they want to be different and all that shity boring stuff of the 20yo nowadays who think they make a difference in the world, but they just keep getting lame.
“Legs (Keep Dancing)” is directed by Mike Ruiz (congrats on the video and also the astonishing photoshoot on Vanessa Williams).
