So Lady Gaga released “Harlequin” , her new album inspired from her role in the movie “Joker: Folie a Deux”.

And Madonna released “I’m Breathless” (in 1990) her album inspired from her role in the movie “Dick Tracy”.

Sorry ladies and gentlemen, but listening to the Harlequin album qith those jazz, swing arrangements and reading all about the inspiration from the role in the new Joker movie, all that came in mind was the role that Madonna had in Dick Tracy that made her release a completely different album back in the day, I’m Breathless.

Can’t say that Harlequin is a nice album and most of all because we have listened many time to Gaga singing music like this. So, nothing new here, but of course it has to fit the occasion. It also has enough covers in it, nicely made but…

I’m Breathless from Madonna, was an original album. No covers. Yes, too much inspiration from the Broadway musicals and it’s full of jazz and swing arrangements also (but it contained “Vogue” as the last song of the record).

I couldn’t help but comparing these 2 albums. They are both inspired by the movies the two artists are in and they are both almost under the same genres. Both movies are based on cartoons. Dick Tracy & Joker! It’s not the first time of course that we compare Lady Gaga to Madonna, as LG has proven in her career that copying M was the best she could do to gain some popularity (remember ‘Born This Way’ with ‘Express Yourself’?). Not a conspiracy theorist, but it really it blew my mind thinking that LG is again following the steps that M has built throughout her career.

So I decided to listen again to “I’m Breathless” released from Madonna with music from and inspired by the film ‘Dick Tracy’. Enjoy and make your own judgement!
