Too many releases lately. Too many records playing on my headphones and my speakers! But among all the releases I’m stuck with these four albums as their unique sound is flawless and represents each artist individually at this moment in time. So, let me intoduce you to these albums and I hope you’ll find the one that suits better into what you’re listening to right now. They’re from the Dance Electronic genre that has a lot to offer in 2024, it’s getting bigger and stronger and more relevant than any other genre in music, this year.
JAMIE XX – IN WAVES
We’ve been waiting a long time for this release! And if I could offer a rating I would put 10/10 on this, oh yes! It represents the Dance Electronic genre of 2024 and you can listen to it non-stop without skipping one track. Jamie XX released singles, before the album came out, with Honey Dijon, Robyn and we had a taste of what’s going to follow. Of course Romy is here, Oliver Sim, Panda Bear and The Avalanches. When I first listened to the intro of the album that combines the “Ripgroove” from Double 99 and the vocals of one of my favorite (and first) UK Garage anthems “Never Gonna Let You Go” from Tina Moore, my brain was shaken! And it definitely let me stick with the album without skipping a track, I took it all in, listened again and again and let those vibes transcend my mind in this rave – dance – trance state that it took me.
CARIBOU – HONEY
Did Caribou have the best promo on social media? Yes, he did! He put his head photo everywhere and the dance community went crazy, as we’ve been waiting for a new Caribou release. Teasing “Honey” and “Come Find Me” was enough to know what was about to follow. It’s a full of rhythm album playing non-stop from start to end , like taking a pill and let it hit your brain smoothing out the edges. “Volume” using a sample from one of the first dance electronica records of all time, “Pump Up The Volume” from M.A.R.R.S., brings that 80’s vibe into 2024 and it is already on my playlist and my dance DJ sets.
Purple Disco Machine – Paradise
He is the Disco master of this era, like it or not! Purple Disco Machine releases “Paradise” , an album that already has some huge hits like “Substitution”, “Bad Company”, “Beat Of Your Heart”. But… playing the album for the first time, listening to the intro track W.T.P featuring Metronomy, it feels like I’m inside a disco in the 80s, making my moves on the light dancefloor and the DJ just hit me with the most incredible intro I could listen to. Purple Disco Machine delivers the best vibes, basslines since day 1 and you get the feeling in each song. Many collaborations in here from Nile Rodgers, Dabeull, Sophie and The Giants, Kungs, Chromeo, just to name some of them. Get into the disco groove!
KYLIE MINOGUE – TENSION II
I’m sure that Kylie recognizes that she’s living her third era in music and it feels sooo good. The first was the “I Should Be So Lucky” era in the 80s and early 90s. The second came after “Spinning Around” was released and of course the unmissable anthem “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” in the beggining of 00s. But , what happened next, I don’t know if anyone could have predicted her third era in music, so electronic, so full of dancing, so 2020’s!!! It all started with the DISCO album, cause that tune “Real Groove” still hits hard! And then… “Padam” came over and it became one of the biggest viral sensations. “Tension II” continues this era on the best way possible, it’s full of Pop Dance anthems. You could play this album in a mainstream club non-stop and everybody would be dancing around like crazy. The intro song “Lights Camera Action” is all you need to figure out this pop dance effect that’s coming next. (I could write a whole article about her music, following her steps since day 1 and playing all the hits on the radio, maybe i’ll do it one day as Kylie is one of the greatest in Pop music and she’s been doing this non-stop!)
