The Weeknd goes 80s and ‘Blinding Lights’ is the Tune Of The Week

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye aka The Weeknd is about to release his 4th album.

On November 2019 he released two singles, ‘Heartless’ and ‘Blinding Lights’ , going viral at once with his new look and new music! Totally different tunes, ‘Heartless’ in an R&B mood, mainly on his classic style and ‘Blinding Lights’ with an 80s appeal in it and a different structure than we are used to from the hits nowadays. The first one went No.1 in US on its’ release and the 2nd one went No.1 in UK this week! Of course, different territories, different crowd, different styles. But both of them got the sound of ‘what is now’ playing in music across the globe.

‘Binding Lights’ is co-produced by Max Martin, the global hitmaker since the 90s. And it seems that the 80s feel, reminding of electro pop from another decade, influenced from the soundtrack of ‘Stranger Things’, and moreover from the upbeat 130 – 140 bpm tunes of the eighties, this is the sound of 2020. You can also listen to that style making a comeback , to the new Dua Lipa single ‘Physical’! Seems like the global music makes a turning point to appeal to more audiences, from 15 years old to 50 years old. The first audience learns and listens, and the olders reminisce the tunes that they listened to as teenagers.

So… Blinding Lights is the Tune Of The Week and is stuck in my head till it got released 3 months ago. It’s about time it takes the spot of the TOTW. Check out the amazing video below and turn the volume up. This is 2020 POP style!
