Nick Hornby has written one of his greatest books in the 90s. “High Fidelity” is full of humour, tons of music information and human relationships. The movie starring John Cusack, Iben Hjejle, Jack Black, Todd Louiso and Lisa Bonet, is on top of my list. At the top 5 of the movies that involve music, human reaction and vinyl. And … in 2020 we got the tv series! The first question in mind is, is it worth it? YES!
Starring Zoë Kravitz, Jake Lacy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and David H. Holmes the tv series is a comedy about relationships based on the book and the movie (which i really enjoy watching once a year). Zoë is the main character, the vinyl store owner and most of the play is based on her relationships. But… many other situations are happening in the tv series with Questlove as the music supervisor delivering some really great music! Really really great choices! It brought ‘Come on Eileen’ back on my playlist!
Well, to be honest, if you don’t like music, you might not enjoy it as much as i did. I’ve read somewhere that the tv series is for music nerds. Well, maybe yes, maybe no. I’m a music junkie, but i always find myself surrounded by people who also enjoy listening to music through vinyl, moreover they enjoy going to a live concert in the search of new music and new musicians. Or their best act! But sure, it’s not for mainstream audience. And if you watch it, you will realize it on an episode, that yes, mainstream audience has its’ mind elsewhere. It seems that people these days vary from those stuck on their phone all the time and those searching to live outside their phone.
A song i shazamed while watching the series is ‘Use My Body’ from Mavis John. What a groove! What a tune!
Go watch the tv series of ‘High Fidelity’, it’s fun, it’s interesting and let’s hope for a season 2 soon. Don’t do it like ‘Vinyl’ (which was really good, but they decided to drop it).
