We celebrate Summer 2015 with this mixtape full of soul, acid jazz, funk, pop, disco tunes put together as a Status Update. ‘Status Update’ is the blog that inspired me to make this mixtape for everyone out there. You can find some great classics, some new danceable tunes plus remixes and lots of energy (not meaning the bpm). Positive energy and good vibes. That’s what we need to take with us this summer.
The Beats mix on the classic Seal ‘Future Love Paradise’ starts the mixtape, followed by Incognito that take us into summer. Some great classics come in a row like the collaboration of Eric Clapton with Babyface on ‘Change The World’ (plus a really nice pop tune from Ed Sheeran) till Marvin Gaye’s remix on ‘I Want You’ takes over, full of percussion and trumpets. Gaelle brings pure soul from the past and then we got the disco part.
A great cover on the reggae anthem ‘Cocaine’ comes from Escort, a full groove remix on Cerrone’s ‘Hooked On You’ and then Idra Kayne, the greek soul voice has definitely the summer track we wanna listen to the beach bars across the islands. A Brand New Heavies version of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’ is exactly what we needed to funk things up a bit more and then Judith Hill is accompanied by Prince on ‘Turn Up’ to give the boost of funk we need.
The mixtape closes with 3 of my favorites that are definitely on my summer DJ set. Gregory Porter is one talented man that has brought jazz music back into attention. St.Germain makes his return (been away on solo projects since 2000) this year with the brand new ‘Real Blues’ and we hope for an exciting new album in a few months. The mixtape closes with one song full of groove! ‘Groove Is In The Heart’, but this is not the original version as Q-Tip & Bootsy Collins take things to another level.

This blog gave me inspiration for the mix you’re about to listen. Enjoy it loud!
