Joss Stone has one of the most recognizable voices in the game. Since the very beggining with “Fell In Love With A Boy” in 2003 (and her fist album as a teenager “The Soul Sessions”), everybody knew that she had a long road ahead in the music business. The power and soul she delivers while singing is out-of-this-world and the way she puts everyone in the mood is a charisma that few artists have.
7 years after the great album “Water For The Soul” and after watching her go throughout the world meeting some great musicians, showing us great scenery of the places she visited, people from accross the globe, having conversations, tasting food and all that she does in her social media life, it was about time to drop an album.
When I first listened to the first track “Never Forget My Love” I was almost convinced that the album was going to be a soul food. She has the ability to combine classic soul with a powerful performance and as I read on ‘Mail Online’: Motown legend Smokey Robinson dubbed her ‘Aretha Joplin’, because of her ability to fuse the gospel hues of Aretha Franklin with Janis Joplin’s blues. She paved the way for a generation of British pop-soul acts. And that is absolutely to the point.
“Never Forget My Love” is co-written with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and the combination of strings, horns and the whole orchestra arrangement is full of joy and excitement for every ear that is in need of great music. Joss is exceptional and sounds as fresh as ever on her vocals and maybe it’s been a really long time since I’ve listened to a great tango song like “The Greatest Secret In The World”. It became an instant favorite! It really got me on the first listen of the album.
Well, Spring is coming soon. If you want it sooner, play this piece of art from the legendary Joss Stone.
Her second single smells like flowers and it’s sweeter than ever. Enjoy the video here:
